Iridium(III) complexes in selective C-H oxidation

Abstract

In this Academic Employment Initiative symposium, I present my graduate and postdoctoral work on iridium complexes that selectively oxidize inert C-H bonds in alkanes. My graduate work, with Prof. Crabtree at Yale University, showed that Cp* (Cp* = C_5Me_5) iridium complexes are active precatalysts in stereo- retentive C-H hydroxylation. My postdoctoral research focuses on the mechanism of C-H activation and oxidn. of methane, using pincer (Phebox)Ir^(II)(X)_2(OH_2) (X = OAc or O_2CF_2) complexes, for the conversion of methane to a liq. fuel methanol. This is carried out with Prof. Alan S. Goldman at Rutgers University.
