Abstract

A hierarchical organization stores its information in a la rge number of databases. These databases are interrelated , forming a closely-coupled database system. Traditional information systems and current database management systems do not have a means of expressing these relationships. This thesis describes a model of the information structure of the hierarchical organization that identifies the nature of database relationships. It also describes the design and implementation of the Communicative Database Management System (CDMS).
