Abstract

The fallowing report was prepared by Keiiti Aki, Visiting Associate Professor of Geophysics at the Seismological Laboratory, California Institute of Technology (on leave from the Earthquake Research Institute, Tokyo University, Japan). The report summarizes work done by K. Aki and K. Kaminuma, as presented in a paper given at the Second Western National Meeting of the American Geophysical Union, Stanford University, December 1962, and as published in Contribution 1141, Division of Geological Sciences, California Institute of Technology, and in earlier papers in the Bulletin of the Earthquake Research Institute, Tokyo.
