Abstract

Kääb et al. report two massive, catastrophic collapse of neighbouring glaciers in Tibet. These collapses were caused by a combination of warmer and wetter climate and weak bedrock material, and finally triggered by unusually large amounts of water beneath the glaciers from melt and rain in summer 2016.
