Parts of this contribution are based on a review on submillimetre galaxies for Physics Reports [57], including many results of the SCUBA Lens Survey with Ian Smail, Rob Ivison, Jean-Paul Kneib and David Frayer. Information on the SEDs, temperatures and luminosities of dusty galaxies has been provided by Vicki Barnard and Scott Chapman.
