Preface

This issue of the Journal of Low Temperature Physics presents the proceedings of the Thirteenth International Symposium on Quantum Fluids and Solids (QFS 2003), held at the University of New Mexico from August 3-8, 2003. The QFS symposia are held in those years when the triennial International Conference on Low Temperature Physics is not held. The QFS symposia traditionally provide a congenial and productive "workshop" -style environment, with only one session at a time and smaller groups of people in informal settings.
