Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy. Long-Range H-F Spin-Spin Coupling in 1,1-Difluoro-2,2-dichloro-3-phenyl-3-methylcyclobutane

Abstract

A 2 C.P.S. long-range H-F spin-spin coupling has been observed over fire saturated bonds in 1,1-difluoro-2,2-dichloro-3-phenyl-3-metliylcyclobutane, involving one of the fluorines at the 1-position and the protons of the 3-methyl group. Comparison of the spectrum with that of stereospecifically labeled 4-deuterio derivatives suggests that the fluorine involved in the long-range coupling is the one cis to the methyl group.
