The importance of metabolism for lipid D/H ratios

Abstract

Recent work on factors controlling hydrogen-isotopic fractionations in lipids has yielded two rather surprising observations. The first is that the net D/H fractionation between growth water and synthesized lipids (є_(w/l)) can change substantially as a function of environmental salinity.
