Involvement of formic acid in the Belousov-Zhabotinskii oscillator

Abstract

We wish to report direct experimental evidence which indicates that formic acid is not produced during the Ce(IV)-catalyzed oxidation of malonic acid (MA) by acidic bromate, the Belousov- Zhabotinskii oscillator, nor is it consumed when added to the oscillating reaction.
