Dry sample preservation using a SlipChip

Abstract

This paper presents a SlipChip device that allows stabilization of biological samples in the dry state. This device incorporates commercially available chemical stabilization matrices that allow storage of bioanalytes without the need for refrigeration. Sample loading, processing (e.g. plasma filtration from blood), aliquoting, and drying can be performed by untrained users. The device can then be shipped to a centralized facility, where the sample can be recovered by trained users and processed using traditional techniques. This approach is suitable for remote clinical analyses (such as HIV-1 monitoring), biosurveillance and remote clinical trials.
